Snowed in...

Being trapped in the house due to weather hasn't been too bad...
I made my husband run out to the grocery store while I was at work yesterday because everyone was in a mad rush to stock up before the storm! A spaghetti squash, some herbs and parmesan made an excellent side dish for last nights dinner! Thanks to martha :)
Sorry for the blurry image but I was so excited to eat these amazing scallops!
Breakfast this morning... (during the week I never have time to make a full breakfast)

Sausage and Fig Pizza

I have been drooling over this Sausage and Fig Pizza recipe from "A Kitchen on Elm Street" for a while! Last night was a perfect night for a fall pizza. I have never made anything with fresh figs so I was a little intimidated but they were the perfect sweet compliment to the smoky chicken sausage and fontina cheese! Visit Noelle's blog for a little kitchen inspiration! I'm excited to try her recipe for Salmon Salad with cilantro lime vinaigrette.

Sprinkles Cupcakes Chicago

During a LONG sunny walk downtown yesterday, my sweets loving friend and I stopped in to Sprinkles cupcakes. I was so impressed with the design that I'm still thinking about it today! Here are some shots of the minimal design that stuck in my mind... I love the white walls with the sleek blonde wood millwork and glass sheets. I need to go back for a cupcake soon!

I love their mix packaging too!

Cold = Comfort

Cold weather makes it so hard to eat healthy! Skiing = hot chocolate, watching football on Sundays= pizza and beer and coming home after a long day and taking the dog for a long much needed walk in the 7 degree temperatures does NOT make me crave a healthy salad. I found these healthy pizza recipes from Eating Well so get ready to curl up to a movie and graze! (Click on the images for recipes)

My personal favorite (Arugula & Prosciutto Pizza)

Most Intriguing (Lahmahjoon Pizza) The Basic Option w/ a little flair (Grilled Pizza w/ tomato, pesto and feta)
The Most Naughty Sounding (Black Bean Nacho Pizza)
The One I Want to make tonight (Thai Chicken Pizza)

Food as Art

I forgot to mention I also love cooking! Sometimes I cook for my eyes as well. (I know, that sounds weird) But isn't cooking art on it's own? The look of green avocado against bright red tomatoes or different colored peppers in fajitas. A mound of apples in the middle of a dark wood table or even just basic eggs can look so elegant on a glossy white plate. Were going back to basics people! Here's a look at Dave's (my lucky husband) breakfast this morning. I took some pictures before he ate half, but didn't realize i still had my memory card in my computer. Whoops! Thank goodness Friday is here- Northern Michigan here we come!
